Ode Archives: Connie Komack's Ode

Whilst wandering one day along the road

in early spring, or was it May,

I chanced upon a woodland toad

who croaked a tune I thought to play

upon my bamboo pipe homemade and fair –

a tune both soulful and profound,

quite throaty deep and sorrowful.

Though you might think it somewhat square

‘twas such a heart-appealing sound

that all who heard it felt its pull.
